Remnant Fellowship Church Youth Camp Receives Grant from NASA

NASA Summer of InnovationJune 7, 2011: There is much to be excited about at the Remnant Fellowship Church this Summer. With their seventh annual Summer Day Camp in full swing, the youth group was pleasantly surprised when they were recently awarded with a grant from the NASA Summer of Innovation Mini-Grant Program.

When Abbi Rickman, age 14, was told she would be able to be a part of the NASA program the excitement was evident, "I've dreamed of being an astronaut all my life! I'm so excited I get to learn more about NASA at my Church!"

This grant will allow the Summer Day Camp youth to learn more about robotics, in addition to providing funds for a home school league. Although they are just at the beginning of Summer with all of its activities, it is going by quickly and the children are excited to get started learning and growing as a joyful group, eager to have fun and gain a better understanding of the world around them.

"We plan to use this grant to purchase curriculum and materials directly from NASA Education and Lego Robotics in order to provide an enriched Summer of rocketry, hydraulics, programming, and robotics. We also are grateful to our advisor, Dr. Jerry Roth, Ph.D., a Vanderbilt University Computer Science Instructor, for providing us educational support and advice. We are very excited about this opportunity!" – Jill Snapp, Camp Counselor

It looks like this year’s Summer Day Camp just got ten times more exciting and the fun won’t stop there! With community service projects planned and countless outdoor activities scheduled, there is no telling where this group of happy children might show up.
